Recently, the world’s first 9MW wind power forging spindle independently developed and manufactured by China was successfully launched, which is another important breakthrough in the field of key core components of large-scale wind power. The first 9MW wind power forging spindle launched this time is 4.48 meters long, with a flange diameter of 3.3 meters and a forged blank weight of 89 tons, which fully reflects the comprehensive manufacturing strength and technical equipment advantages of the entire industry chain from ingot smelting, forging, heat treatment to machining and painting.
The successful launch of the 9MW forging spindle this time concentratedly reflects my country’s equipment and technical advantages in large-scale spindle manufacturing. In the forging process, a special forging tooling for large-scale spindles was designed, and the spindle blank was produced by a 12,000-ton free forging press using a forging process combining tire die forging and hollow copying forging.
In the heat treatment and machining process, the technical R&D team designed special heat treatment and machining processes according to the characteristics of the 9MW forging spindle and the equipment advantages in the heat treatment and machining of large forgings, ensuring that the performance and size indicators of the product meet customer requirements.
We have 120MN, 50MN, 31.5MN, and 12.5MN free forging hydraulic presses, and have supporting operating machines, forging cranes and 22 heating furnaces, forming a systematic production capacity for forgings, which can forge a maximum of 350 tons of forgings. The annual production capacity of forgings is 200,000 tons.

In terms of heat treatment, we have more than 40 trolley-type heat treatment furnaces of various types with a maximum length of 25 meters and a maximum width of 7 meters, 16 pit-type heat treatment furnaces with a maximum depth of 30 meters, 1 3mx20m hood-type heat treatment furnace, and self-developed and manufactured 25MN and 30MN CNC straightening hydraulic presses and other supporting facilities. The annual heat treatment capacity can reach 150,000 tons.
In terms of machining, we have more than 320 sets of heavy-duty machining equipment, including CNC gantry boring and milling machining centers, CNC floor-standing boring and milling machining centers, CNC horizontal lathes, CNC double-column vertical lathes, CNC roll grinders, deep hole drilling and boring milling machines, etc., which can perform various processes such as turning, boring, milling, grinding, inserting, and drilling.
As an important large-scale comprehensive R&D and manufacturing platform in my country, we have the production capacity of the entire industrial chain from raw material processing to finished product delivery. In terms of wind power forging spindles, in the future, with the completion and commissioning of the 70,000-ton heavy-duty die forging press suitable for the production of large wind power forging spindles under construction, the current free forging process will be upgraded to a “net near-forming” die forging process, which will continue to promote the cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and quality improvement of forging spindles.
